Dweller West’s own Derrick Muska has successfully completed the requirements for the nationally recognized Assoc. Designated Design-Build Professional™ certification (Assoc. DBIA™). The Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) awarded designated status to Derrick upon his successful completion of coursework and formal examination in all aspects of design-build project delivery. By completing these requirements, successful candidates earn the right to display “Assoc. DBIA” after their names, identifying them to design-build end-users and the industry at large as professionals experienced in design-build project delivery.

Assoc. DBIA™ certification demonstrates a commitment to design-build done right. Individuals holding the Assoc. DBIA™ certification have mastered the best practices associated with the entire design-build process—from project procurement through post-award. Both A/E/C firms and public agencies train personnel from a variety of disciplines and departments in the best-practices developed by DBIA.

The Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA) was founded in 1993 in response to the emergence of design-build and integrated project delivery as a significant force in the design and construction industry. Great News! California’s Contractors State License Board has issued Dweller West a General Engineering (A) License. We are now a General Building and General Engineering Contractor. We’ll be pursuing street and road improvements, bridges, overpasses, underpasses, parks, playgrounds, recreational work, earthmoving, excavating, grading, trenching, paving and drainage projects.

This past Sunday my wife, son and I took a morning stroll through a local park near our house in Belmont Heights. As we made our way home, my eye was instantly drawn towards an older structure with beautiful detailing. I stopped and took a few photos in order to share with you. Who knew Long Beach Parks and Recreation had such beautiful old buildings?

As part of a larger project, we recently completed the modernization of this spa. Energy efficient supporting equipment was installed. Additional upgrades included a Pebble Tec finish, new tile, color changeable LED pool light, saltwater chlorination system and a ProLogic programmable panel with wireless indoor panel.

We recently designed and installed this custom pivet Ipe front door. All wood used was FSC certified. We used rixson hardware to achieve the full 180 degree swing for this 400 lbs door. Additionally, Ultra Premium Red Label Penofin was used as the door’s transparent stain, which should be applied at seasonal changes.

I always enjoy Dwell Magazine’s yearly expo in Downtown LA. Roaming the vast convention floor I have so many options at my fingers–food court, a professional lecture or building materials?

This California bungalow was originally constructed in 1923. Dweller West was retained to modernize the home, addressing structural and cosmetic issues. Structural improvements included foundation earthquake bolting / retrofitting, replacement of deteriorated members throughout and lot drainage was improved. The home received LEED certificated solid-strand Smith & Fong Plyboo floors throughout, electrical, HVAC and plumbing was upgraded, which included a tankless water heater. The kitchen, as well as both baths were redesigned adding storage and style. Finally, the home was fully painted and landscaped using only California native plants.

As contractors, we design and build to protect our community. In the aftermath of the devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan we feel a deep sorrow and stand in strong support of the Japanese people.
